Great success of the 24th Conference – 2025
The 24th Annual Conference of the Societât Sientifiche e Tecnologjiche Furlane took place on Saturday 6 December 2025 in Gorizia, in the “Carlo X” Hall of the Grand Hotel Entourage, Palazzo Strassoldo, Piazza Sant’Antonio 2.
The opening lecture, greatly appreciated by all those present, was delivered by Professor Franc Fari on the theme The symbolic and informational nature of DNA, of the psyche and of language.
In the Communications session, which numbered fourteen papers, contributions were presented by: Francesco Fior; Guglielmo Pitzalis, Bruzio Bisignano, Claudia Zuliani, Daniela Gnesutta and Paolo Pischiutti; Monica Liberale in collaboration with Silla Stel; Enrico Peterlunger; Rino Gubiani; Francesca Visintin, Stefania Troiano and Francesco Marangon; Michele Dilena, Antonino Morassi and Alexandre Kawano; Enrico Maiero; Giulia Genuzio; Dario Giaiotti; Lorenzo Marcolini and Dario Giaiotti; Alessio Fornasin, Paolo Ermano and Laura Pagani; Sandro Sillani; Andrea Guaran, Paola Solerti and Gabriele Zanello.
On the occasion of the 24th Annual Conference, the Prize for Degree and Doctoral Theses established by the SSTeF was officially presented to Enrico Maiero, winner of the first edition with his PhD research and his doctoral dissertation.

On the occasion of the 24th Annual Conference, the Prize for Degree and Doctoral Theses — established by the SSTeF thanks to the funding received from ARLeF for the three-year period 2022–2024 and awarded in the early months of 2025 — was officially presented.
The winner of the first edition of the prize is Dr Enrico Maiero, who entered and won first prize with his doctoral dissertation, accompanied by a summary in Friulian of the original work of outstanding quality.
Enrico Maiero, who read Physics at the University of Trieste, was awarded his doctorate in Polar Sciences at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice in the early months of 2025.

The SSTeF is delighted to invite you to the lecture by Dario Giaiotti (University of Trieste and ARPA FVG) and Enrico Maiero (OGS), On the scientific foundations of Friulian weather proverbs, to be held on 25 June at 6.00 pm in the Sala Dora Bassi, Via Garibaldi 7, Gorizia.
The lecture is organised in collaboration with the Società Meteorologica Alpino-Adriatica of Udine and the Centro di Ricerche Carsiche Seppenhofer of Gorizia, and forms part of the GO!2025 programme. Here is the link

Great success of the Udine lecture
On Friday 20 June a very large audience gathered in the Sala Ajace, Udine, to attend the lecture by Dario Giaiotti and Enrico Maiero on “Friulian proverbs and their scientific foundations”.
The event was organised by the Office for the Friulian Language of the Municipality of Udine, the Societât Sientifiche e Tecnologjiche Furlane and the Società Meteorologica Alpino-Adriatica.
The presentation was preceded by words of welcome from the Councillor with responsibility for Friulian Identity, Plurilingualism and Urban Biodiversity of the Municipality of Udine, Stefania Garlatti Costa, and from the President of the SSTeF, Antonino Morassi.
The lecture, delivered by the two speakers in the form of a dialogue — first between themselves and then with the audience — was greatly appreciated by all those present.
Great success of the 23rd Conference – 2024
The 23rd Annual Conference of the Societât Sientifiche e Tecnologjiche Furlane took place on Saturday 14 December 2024 in Casarsa, in the Council Chamber of Palazzo Burovich de Zmajevich, the seat of the Municipality, where a large audience gathered to attend the event.
The Conference opened with an introduction by Prof. Antonino Morassi, President of the SSTeF, and with words of welcome on behalf of the Municipality from the Deputy Mayor, Ermes Spagnol.
The Lectio Magistralis, greatly appreciated by all those present, was delivered by Eng. Giovanni Battista Colussi, President of “Colussi Ermes”, on the theme From tradition to innovation: innovative techniques designed to measure for the industrial washing of foodstuffs and of the equipment used in the food and pharmaceutical sectors. Eng. Colussi — upon whom the University of Udine conferred an Honorary Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering for his innovative inventions and designs — illustrated in his opening lecture to the Conference some of the many innovative solutions and inventions he has designed in the field of industrial washing.
Also greatly appreciated were the contributions presented after the opening lecture, in the Communications session, by Gianluigi Gallenti, Matteo Carzedda, Luca Iseppi and Sandro Sillani; Giulia Genuzio; Silla Stel, followed by the short video by Giulia Matellon; Francesco Pascoli; Franco Rosa; Rino Gubiani; Enrico Maiero; Lorenzo Marcolini; Sandro Fabbro.
La societât
Nowadays the development of Friulian culture and of the Friulian language can only come about if the most important aspects of modernity — namely the sciences — are practised in Friulian.
Although scientific communication throughout the world is conducted in English, everywhere the teaching and the practice of the sciences and technologies are carried forward in the national languages.
It was with this conviction that the SSTeF was born: an independent association bringing together researchers, scholars and professionals from a wide range of scientific and technological fields who have the growth of Friulian culture and of the Friulian language at heart.
The aims of the SSTeF are to promote and develop research, knowledge and scientific and technological outreach through the use of the Friulian language.
Activities
The research and science outreach activities of the SSTeF are carried out first and foremost in Friuli, but also around the world.
They concern the principal scientific disciplinary fields:
- the exact sciences; the natural sciences;
- the health sciences;
- the technological sciences;
- the economic, social and human sciences wherever the scientific method is employed;
- science journalism.
Every year the SSTeF holds a Conference at which its members present their most significant research work.

GFS – FJS
Since 2002 the SSTeF has published the Gjornâl Furlan des Siencis / Friulian Journal of Science. The GFS/FJS is a bilingual scientific journal, in Friulian and English, in which original research papers on the most advanced scientific and technological disciplines, scientific reviews and reviews of scientific books are published.
The publication of the scientific journal Gjornâl Furlan des Siencis/Friulian Journal of Science is one of the strategic objectives of the SSTeF.
XXII Annual Conference – 2023
The 22nd Annual Conference of the Societât Sientifiche e Tecnologjiche Furlane took place on Saturday 9 December 2023 in Romans d’Isonzo, at Casa Candussi-Pasiani, Piazza Garibaldi 6.
The opening lecture was delivered by Prof. Paola Del Negro, Director General of the National Institute of Oceanography and Experimental Geophysics, on the theme The Adriatic Sea in a changing climate.
In the Communications session, contributions were presented by: Alessio Fornasin and Laura Rizzi; Stefania Troiano, Francesco Marangon and Alberto Bertossi; Sandro Fabbro; Eric Puntel; Enrico Maiero; Luigi Sante Zampa; Clara Salvador; Rino Gubiani; Lorenzo Marcolini.
Sclesis – RadioRAI
“Sclesis, five minutes of science and technology” is a radio programme produced by Marco Tempo and Delta Studios, in collaboration with the Societât Sientifiche e Tecnologjiche Furlane, for the regional RAI of Friuli Venezia Giulia.

XXI Annual Conference – 2022
The 21st Annual Conference of the Societât Sientifiche e Tecnologjiche Furlane returned to being held in person and took place on Saturday 10 December 2022 in Campoformido, in the Hall of the Casa delle Associazioni, Via De Amicis 2.
The opening lecture was delivered by Prof. Guglielmo Cevolin, Associate Professor of Public Law Institutions, Deputy Director of the Master’s programme in Intelligence and ICT at the University of Udine and Coordinator of the Limes Club of Pordenone, on the theme Democracies, autocracies and the world order.
In the Communications session, contributions were presented by: Alessio Fornasin and Laura Rizzi, Federico Spizzo, Rino Gubiani, Sandro Fabbro, Dario Giaiotti, Sandro Sillani, Lorenzo Marcolini, Marta Fedele Dell’Oste.
