International Conference “Minority Languages ​​and Science Communication” on the occasion of the Decade of the Friulian Science and Technology Society

Scientists from all over Europe gathered on Friday, December 16, 2011 in Udine on the occasion of the International Conference “Minority Languages ​​and Science Communication” organized by the Friulian Science and Technology Society to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its foundation.

The conference, which was held at the R. Gusmani Conference Hall at Antonini Palace, Via Petracco 8, University of Friuli, was attended by representatives of the most important European “stateless languages”, who compared their respective experiences on the use of minority language teaching and professional teaching. technical-scientific.

The conference was attended by Maria Gil, Chief Science Communication Officer of Fundazioa Elhuyar, a private association very active in the field of scientific outreach in the Basque language at all levels, which over the past 40 years has carried out a wide range of entrepreneurial activities in the educational, promotional and publishing sectors in the Basque language.

For Catalonia, Sandra Cuadrado i Campos from the Termcat terminology center and Aureli Argemí from Barcelona’s Ciemen were present, who presented the background report together with Slovenian Bojan Brezigar, Director of the daily Primorski Dnevnik and already Chair of the European Bureau of Minority Pandu Languages.

The conference was attended, in addition, by Dr. Prof Delyth Prys, Head of Language Technologies at Bangor University in Wales Robert Dunbar from the University of Aberdeen in Scotland, Anne Dykstra from the Fryske Akademy in Lijouwert in Friesland and Mariannig Le Béchec from the Point BZH association who discussed Breton’s presence in the new tech sector.

The presence of sart and friulian in the university and scientific sectors was finally illustrated by Diego Corraine of the Limba Sarda Society of Nuoro and William Cisilino of the ARLeF of Udine.
