In the early 2000s the SSTeF developed a spelling checker.

The SSTeF’s spelling checker verifies that the words in a text are spelt correctly according to the official orthography and the reference dictionary. If a word as written is not in the dictionary, the checker must suggest those correctly spelt words which, in its judgement, might correspond to the misspelt word.

To find its suggestions, the Friulian Spelling Checker (COF) of the Societât Sientifiche e Tecnologjiche Furlane uses the Aspell engine, which supplies those words that are normally pronounced in a manner similar to the misspelt word.

The COF (in its current version 2.0) works as an add-in for Microsoft Word 2003 and Microsoft Word 2007 on the Microsoft XP and Microsoft Vista operating systems.
