Title I - AIMS\n<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

ART. 1<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The <\/span>Societ\u00e2t Sientifiche e Tecnologjiche Furlane<\/strong> (SSTeF) was constituted in Udine on 17 January 2001 and has its registered office in Udine. Its aims are to promote and further research, knowledge and scientific and technological outreach through the use of the Friulian language. Its research and science outreach activities are carried out first and foremost in Friuli, but activities around the world are also supported.<\/span><\/p>

ART. 2<\/span> \u2013 <\/span>In pursuit of its aims, the Society:<\/p>

  • organises once a year the SSTeF Conference, at which members from all disciplines present their work (original papers or reviews of the scientific literature of a high outreach standard) in the Friulian language;\u00a0<\/span><\/li>
  • founds and supports a scientific journal in the Friulian language in which members publish a part of the papers presented at the SSTeF Conference and outreach papers on the most advanced scientific and technological disciplines (all articles are also made available on the internet in a bilingual Friulian\u2013English version);\u00a0<\/span><\/li>
  • supports all initiatives concerned with the computerisation of the Friulian language, such as, for example: (i) automatic spelling and grammar checkers for Friulian; (ii) speech-synthesis systems for the Friulian language (text-to-speech); (iii) automatic speech-recognition systems for the Friulian language (speech processing); (iv) systems for the computer-assisted teaching of the Friulian language;\u00a0<\/span><\/li>
  • carries forward initiatives to study, defend and promote biodiversity in Friuli; supports the publication of scientific books in Friulian and their translation into English where the work deserves it;\u00a0<\/span><\/li>
  • makes scholarships available to researchers who undertake to publish the results of their research in Friulian as well;\u00a0<\/span><\/li>
  • maintains relations with the institutions and businesses engaged in scientific and technological research in Friuli, with the aim of making their activities and results known in a dedicated section of the Society’s scientific journal;\u00a0<\/span><\/li>
  • employs every suitable means to pursue the aims set out in Art. 1.<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

    Title II - MEMBERS\n<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
    \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

    ART. 3<\/b> \u2013 The Societ\u00e2t Sientifiche e Tecnologjiche Furlane has as its members:<\/p>

    • Founding Members;<\/li>
    • Ordinary Members;<\/li>
    • Honorary Members.<\/li><\/ul>

      The membership fees are set each year by the Executive Committee. In order to become an Ordinary Member, one must be proposed by two other Founding or Ordinary Members. Members must work, or have worked, in disciplines that employ mathematics, in disciplines that employ the experimental method or, more generally, the scientific method, or else in the technological application of knowledge or in fields of science outreach. As a practical criterion, the subjects published in the international magazine Scientific American are regarded as scientific disciplines. Honorary Members are appointed by the General Meeting on the proposal of the Executive Committee; such members are not required to pay membership fees.<\/p>

      ART. 4<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Founding, Ordinary and Honorary Members may vote at General Meetings.<\/p>

      ART. 5<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Membership is lost by resignation (by registered letter to the President), by removal from the register (members who fail to pay the membership fees) or by expulsion (where activities or conduct contrary to the SSTeF are documented, or in the event of very serious criminal convictions).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

      Title III - GOVERNING BODIES\n<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
      \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

      ART. 6<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The governing bodies of the Societ\u00e2t Sientifiche e Tecnologjiche Furlane are:<\/p>

      • the General Meeting;<\/li>
      • the Executive Committee;<\/li>
      • the Presidency Office;<\/li>
      • the President;<\/li>
      • the Board of Auditors;<\/li>
      • the Board of Arbiters.<\/li><\/ul>
        General Meeting<\/h5>

        ART. 7<\/strong> \u2013 The Ordinary General Meeting must be held within the first three months of each year. The date of the meeting is set by the President, who gives notice to every member at least fifteen days before the appointed date. The Meeting is composed of the Founding Members and Ordinary Members who have paid their membership fees, and of the Honorary Members. The Meeting is deemed validly constituted at the first call if at least half plus one of all members are present; at the second call the Meeting is valid whatever the number of members present. It falls to the Meeting to approve the statement of the past year’s expenditure, the Society’s growth strategies, the financial report and the budget for the coming year; to elect the members of the Executive Committee; and to elect the Auditors and the Arbiters. Amendments to the Statutes may be made by an absolute majority of the members present, provided that at least one third of the members are present at the General Meeting. Each member may authorise another member by proxy to vote on his or her behalf at the Meeting. Each member may hold at most one written proxy.<\/p>

        ART. 8<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The Extraordinary General Meeting is convened by the President, either on his or her own initiative, or at the request of the Executive Committee, or upon a written and reasoned request by at least one tenth of the enrolled members, or by the Auditors on accounting grounds. The Extraordinary Meeting must be held within one month of the request for its convening. The rules of the Ordinary General Meeting apply to this form of Meeting.<\/p>

        Executive Committee<\/h5>

        ART. 9<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The Executive Committee is composed of ten members. Six members must represent the principal scientific disciplinary fields:<\/p>

        • the exact sciences (mathematics, computer science, physics, statistics, etc.);<\/li>
        • the natural sciences (chemistry, biology, geology, psychology, etc.);<\/li>
        • the health sciences (medicine, veterinary science, pharmacy, etc.);<\/li>
        • the technological sciences (engineering, agri-food technologies, architecture, etc.);<\/li>
        • the economic, social and human sciences wherever the scientific method is employed (theoretical economics, business economics, management, sociology, linguistics, anthropology, archaeology, the legal sciences, etc.);<\/li>
        • science journalism.<\/li><\/ul>

          At its first meeting (which must be held within one month of the elections) the Committee elects from among its number:<\/p>

          • the President;<\/li>
          • the Vice-President.<\/li><\/ul>

            Within two weeks the President appoints:<\/p>

            • the Secretary<\/li>
            • the Treasurer,<\/li><\/ul>

              choosing them from among the duly enrolled members. The Executive Committee prepares the Society’s development plan; appoints the Honorary Members; entrusts particular tasks to members in pursuit of the Society’s aims (Art. 2); resolves upon the expulsion of members (under Art. 5); and deals with all matters pertaining to the ordinary activity of the Society. The Executive Committee is convened by the President at least three times a year in ordinary meetings; it may further meet in extraordinary session whenever more than one third of its members so request in writing, stating their reasons. The Executive Committee may call for an Extraordinary General Meeting provided that more than half of the Committee’s members are present at the meeting.<\/p>

              Presidency Office<\/h5>

              ART. 10<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The Presidency Office is made up of the President, the Vice-President, the Secretary and the Treasurer. The Office works in the interests of the Society; it carries forward its organisation and administration and coordinates its various activities; it prepares the proposals to be laid before the Executive Committee; it removes from the register, under Art. 5, those members who fail to pay the membership fees. It meets whenever the President sees fit.<\/p>

              President<\/h5>

              ART. 11<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The President is the legal representative of the Society; he or she oversees the progress of its affairs; convenes the General Meeting, the Executive Committee and the Presidency Office; launches the initiatives provided for in Art. 2; gives effect to resolutions and signs the minutes, the documents and the initiatives of the Society; ensures that the Statutes are observed; bears general responsibility for the publications, the various activities and the financial position, and authorises financial operations; presents the report on the Society’s affairs and finances and its growth strategies; and may on his or her own initiative convene the Extraordinary General Meeting. The Societ\u00e2t Sientifiche e Tecnologjiche Furlane is represented by its President.<\/p>

              Secretary<\/h5>

              ART. 12<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The Secretary draws up and keeps in order the minutes of the meetings of the General Meetings, of the Executive Committee and of the Presidency Office. He or she keeps up to date the information concerning the members and the library, and looks after the Society’s archive.<\/p>

              Treasurer<\/h5>

              ART. 13<\/strong> –\u00a0The Treasurer coordinates the accounts, collects the membership fees and monies due, receives funding and attends to payments, and prepares each year the accounts (the final statement of accounts and the budget).<\/p>

              Board of Auditors
              <\/span><\/p>

              Board of Arbiters<\/h5>

              ART. 15<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The Board of Arbiters is composed of five members elected by the Ordinary General Meeting. The Board decides finally, upon written application, on the expulsion of a member resolved by the Executive Committee. It gives its opinion, whenever at least one tenth of the members so request, on possible breaches of the Statutes by the governing bodies of the Association. The Board is convened and chaired by its eldest member. The youngest member acts as secretary and keeps the minutes of the meetings.<\/p>

              ART. 16<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 All offices of the Society are held for two years and are unpaid. Elections to office are conducted by secret ballot.<\/p>

              ART. 17<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The activity of the Societ\u00e2t Sientifiche e Tecnologjiche Furlane is conducted in Friulian. This does not mean, however, that those who do not speak Friulian may not take part in the SSTeF.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

              Title IV - ASSETS AND ADMINISTRATION\n<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
              \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

              ART. 18<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The financial year runs from 1 January to 31 December.<\/p>

              ART. 19<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The Society may own movable or immovable property. The publications of the SSTeF are the property of the Society. Everything published in Friulian through the work of the Society may be freely published in other languages, citing the Friulian edition of the work.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

              \n\t\t\t\t\t

              Title V - GENERAL AND FINAL PROVISIONS\n<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
              \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

              ART. 20<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The internal workings of the Societ\u00e2t Sientifiche e Tecnologjiche Furlane are governed by specific rules approved by the General Meeting.
              ART. 21<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 In order to wind up the Society, the General Meeting must resolve as laid down in Art. 21 of the Italian Civil Code.<\/p>

              ART. 22<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 For all matters not provided for in these Statutes, the provisions of Italian law apply.<\/p>
